The Superior Child Abuse Prevention Council (SCAP) recently awarded its annual Partners in Prevention Award. This year the award was named after Sally Hruska, a beloved community member and advocate of children, who died this past summer. The award recognizes individuals or organizations working for the welfare of children and families in the tri-county area.
SCAP honored Bob Darling who spent 19 years with Goodwill Farm and 6 years with Dial Help before returning to teaching out of state at the start of this school year. During those years he was a mentor and role model for hundreds of youth. Bob helped many boys and girls onto a path for success and introduced a world of activities that he made possible for them. His joy and enthusiasm is contagious, as the kids put it "he's a cool guy."
SCAP also honored Keweenaw Krayons. Located in Mohawk, Keweenaw Krayon's mission is to provide a safe, intergenerational environment for everyone in which they can participate in creative, educational activities regardless of their economic or social status. Keweenaw Krayons has grown to include an after school program, art classes at low or no cost, teen mentoring and employment programs, garden projects, concerts and so much more.
